ABOUT THE ARTIST My name is Victoria Maggio and I am learning about digital art. I create fractal images and 3D graphic images using computer software and, I hope, some small amount of talent. I have placed some of those images in the galleries on this website so others can see my work and perhaps comment on what they see if it should touch them in some way. I was once told that I could not call myself an artist because I created my art with a computer. I had to ask whether a traditional artist who didn't make their own brushes and mix their paint from scratch would also be dismissed so easily: I left the gentleman in deep thought. A computer is a tool, like a paintbrush, a pallette knife or charcoal made from grapevine. It does not create the finished work but lets the artist compose a series of lines and combine a number of colors in just such a way as to express something from within themselves that they have never been able to show before. Digital art has come a long way in the last decade as some extraordinary works created by truly gifted artists have begun to appear in galleries all over the world. I do not know whether I possess the kind of talent that will ultimately allow me to call myself an artist but I hope to find out as I continue to learn this craft and attempt to express my own artistic vision.
